Sharing a heritage of manufacturing excellence
The project marked our first project for internationally-renowned car maker Morgan Cars and added to our portfolio of automotive clients. We manufacture a rear screen for the hardtop version of their prestigious Aero 8 model.
Founded in 1909, the Malvern-based car manufacture has gained a world-wide reputation for excellence and we believe we have much in common with the company. We both remain family owned Midlands-based businesses with a commitment to UK manufacturing, investing in skills and technology to remain competitive in a global economy. Both have innovative approaches to sustainability, aiming to minimise the impact of their production on the environment. Both companies put craftsmanship at the heart of their business.
A previous attempt by a different supplier to manufacture a rear screen for the vehicle had not been successful so Morgan Cars approached us to come up with an effective solution. We have an established track record of successful delivery to the automotive sector. Fortunately our skills, developed over almost 50 years of acrylic fabrication, meant we were successful.
The prototype was the result of collaboration between Morgan Cars, Wrights Plastics and local toolmakers.
We manufactured the component using an oven transfer drape moulding process that utilised specialist skills and equipment. Pre-shaped flat sheets of acrylic were heated and draped formed over the bespoke tool. Once cooled the part was machined to shape. A second version was also screenprinted with an obscuration band.
